"The gold feathered hat I created was made from turkey feathers from a local turkey farm – I was allowed the feathers over Christmas in return for plucking some birds!! I then treated the feathers and dyed them. My inspiration came from the movie ‘Gladiator’ which made me want to create a bold headpiece with the look of gold which had been tarnished without being too heavy. I also wanted to work with a metallic colour as that is strongly in fashion and compliments bold accessories. I wanted to create something that was challenging to traditional styles that people associate with headwear but also something people would appreciate and want to wear to stand out from the crowd."
